We are looking for an individual who wants to be challenged and is ready to join a dynamic team that is rapidly expanding. This position will be based out of our Vancouver offices. The role of the Intermediate Electrical Distribution Engineer is to provide technical expertise for electrical distribution infrastructure (poles, wires, vault, duct bank, and cable) in accordance with client standards, engineering principles, guidelines, policies, and safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the distribution team from response to service requests to project delivery
  • Develop design work packages with scope, schedule and effort estimates
  • Assist with the resolution of design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders and performing activities such as defining the scope of Distribution engineering services to be provided, establishing the basic design criteria with the client, approving technical documentation, and assessing and reporting on work progress against standards, objectives, and specifications to support completion of projects safely, with quality, within budget and on time
  • Provide specialized expertise in Distribution, set high standards for work performance, influencing the establishment of standards, frameworks, and targets for junior members of the team
  • Exercise innovation to propose creative modifications to improve work processes, guidelines, instructions, procedures and standards where possible
  • Design overhead and underground facilities for voltages up to 35kV in an electric utility environment such as line rebuilds, structure replacements, cable replacements, voltage conversions, manhole/vault replacements, duct banks etc.
  • Attend site visits as required for project data and design confirmation, troubleshooting, construction support and quality assurance inspections
Qualifications
  • 7+ years experience in an engineering role with specific Distribution knowledge ideally within British Columbia
  • P.Eng designation or eligible to become a P.Eng with EGBC
  • Experience working with utilities in Western Canada
  • Experience related to expertise in overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV; good communications skills to adequately articulate and discuss technical options and ability to present proposed solutions to a wide range of audiences, adapting to the different understanding levels of the audience
  • Familiarity with GIS, CAD systems and drawing standards
  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software such as SPIDAcalc and PLS-CAD
  • Ability to work with remote partners and team members
  • Maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and other employees
  • Available for occasional travel (mostly within Western Canada)
