Job description
Overview

SwiftX is seeking a versatile and proactive In-House Legal Counsel to oversee our legal affairs in the United States. This role will primarily focus on employment classification and compliance, especially in the context of crowdsourced labor and subcontracted workforces. Additionally, the position will serve as the company's go-to legal advisor for everyday operational legal matters — including contract review, commercial partnerships, dispute resolution, and general compliance. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the legal foundation of a growing logistics-tech startup operating at the frontier of flexible labor models and international operations.

Responsibilities
Labor & Employment Compliance
  • Advise on worker classification (W2 vs 1099), independent contractor status, and labor compliance strategy.
  • Evaluate external vendors (e.g. staffing agencies, blue-collar labor providers) for legal risks and ensure contract compliance.
  • Design and maintain compliant labor frameworks that support the company’s crowdsourcing and flexible hiring models.
  • Monitor legal developments (e.g. federal and state-level legislation on worker misclassification) and adjust policies accordingly.
General Legal Support
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including customer agreements, service provider terms, NDAs, and partnership deals.
  • Support business units (ops, HR, sales) with legal advice on day-to-day issues and strategic decisions.
  • Assist in resolving disputes, responding to legal inquiries, and managing risk exposure.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel as needed on specialized matters.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state.
  • 3+ years of legal experience, ideally with a mix of in-house and law firm backgrounds.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. labor law, worker classification, and relevant IRS/DOL guidance.
  • Generalist mindset with the ability to quickly get up to speed on commercial, regulatory, or IP matters as they arise.
  • Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced startup environment.
Nice to Have
  • Prior experience advising gig-economy or labor-intensive tech platforms.
  • Familiarity with logistics, e-commerce, or cross-border business operations.
  • Comfort working with international teams and time zones.
What We Offer
  • A seat at the table with founders and leadership on legal strategy.
  • Opportunity to shape legal infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Dynamic environment with big problems to solve and lots of white space to own.
  • PTO: 7 days
  • Paid Sick Leave: 5 days
  • Holidays: 6 days
  • 401K 100% Matching up to 2%
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: 50% employer contribution for medical; 100% coverage for dental and vision
