Job description

You will contribute to our team by ensuring electrical safety compliance during solar commissioning, supporting hazard mitigation in MV/HV environments, delivering specialized safety training, enforcing procedures, maintaining documentation, and serving as a key link between the commissioning and HSE teams.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee safety compliance during solar electrical installation and commissioning activities, including installation, energization, functional testing, and system integration.
  • Support commissioning teams in identifying hazards and implementing effective controls, particularly in medium voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) environments.
  • Conduct and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and Energized Electrical Work Permits (EEWPs).
  • Enforce safety policies, procedures, and standards during all live electrical testing phases.
  • Deliver commissioning-specific safety in person training for electrical crews, including:
    • Arc Flash Safety (NFPA 70E)
    • Energization protocols and approach boundaries
    • LOTO procedures
    • Pre-energization walkdowns and checklists
  • Serve as a liaison between the electrical commissioning team and the HSE department.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis involving electrical hazards.
  • Ensure accurate safety documentation, daily reporting, and toolbox talks during commissioning activities.
  • Assist in developing and revising safety procedures specific to electrical testing and commissioning phases.
  • Support site audits and inspections focused on electrical safety and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related field preferred
  • 5 years’ experience in an electrical systems role
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams and commissioning plans.
  • Proficient in delivering safety trainings and technical briefings.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with commissioning schedules, scopes of work, and quality control coordination.
  • Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
