The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Office Services, the HR Generalist will play a key role on our small HR team. This newly created position offers a rare opportunity to help shape and build our HR infrastructure from the ground up. You will work closely with the HR Business Partner, the SVP of HR, and leaders across the organization to develop and implement HR programs that support evolving business needs. As the first point of contact for HR-related matters, you will manage day-to-day operations and ensure a seamless employee experience.
Your core responsibilities will include onboarding, performance management, HRIS administration, compensation and benefits, policy guidance, and internal HR communications. This is a role for someone who thrives in building structure, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment. As part of a collaborative team, you will help cultivate a positive employee experience and contribute to a culture grounded in our CARE Values.
This is a full-time, hybrid position, encouraging you to be onsite in our Toronto office approximately 1-3 days per week on average.

- Focusing on the whole employee experience.You will be a trusted advisor to employees and management. You will work closely with managers and the HR team to support employee relations and help foster a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment. You will provide guidance on compensation & benefits, HR Policies, DEI initiatives, workplace culture, and workforce planning. You will investigate employee concerns with professionalism, escalate where needed, develop resolutions, and ensure appropriate documentation, follow-up, responsiveness, and communication.
- Supporting talent management and development.You will support career growth and engage top performers in career discussions. You will be involved with key HR processes, including performance reviews and goal setting, ensuring they are impactful and effective.
- Coaching and Training.You will work on the development and delivery of targeted training and assisting managers and employees on the outcomes of the training, ensuring they have the tools and resources to support them going forward.
- Enacting policy and procedures.You will ensure that HR policies and procedures align with business needs, providing clear guidance and execution with a standardized, centralized approach. You will bridge the gap between policy and practice, making HR accessible and actionable. You will participate in projects that include surveys, research, process mapping, and developing initiatives, programs, and policies.
- Managing Compensation and Benefits.You will play a key role in administering and continuously assessing our compensation and benefits plan, ensuring we are offering a competitive package. You will also be heavily involved in the year-end compensation process.

- Performing essential administration.You will process and update employee status changes, and hiring requirements, and create internal communications leveraging the intranet, SharePoint and email communications. You will help maintain and update HR documentation, including the employee handbook, departmental tracking requirements, and organization charts. You will generate and deliver confidential documents to employees, including Leave of Absence letters, Immigration Documents, and Employment Letters. You will provide reporting and analytics in support of HR initiatives. You will analyze and audit HR data to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Support recruitment.You will collaborate with internal hiring managers to coordinate job descriptions, needs analysis, interviews, and background checks. You will coordinate onboarding and the successful transition of new hires by issuing employment offers and managing the employee orientation program. You will initiate new hire and exit surveys and report on the findings.
What You Bring:
- The Experience.You have a background as an HR Generalist, with experience in a professional services or corporate environment—ideally within the insurance or financial services sector. You should also bring experience from a start-up or early-stage company, where you contributed to building and formalizing HR policies, programs, and tools. Ideally you are bilingual in English and French. You have worked closely with employees and managers to align organizational, team, and individual performance goals. You bring business and HR acumen, including problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills. You can identify challenges, implement solutions, and drive adoption with engagement. You possess a deep understanding of employment laws and regulations, upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and ethics.
- The Policy Knowledge.You have a deep understanding of HR policies, procedures, and best practices. You can quickly adapt to our specific needs, translating policies into actionable strategies that drive results. You play a key role in executing annual HR processes, such as performance reviews and calibrations, ensuring they drive meaningful outcomes.
- The Initiative.You excel at managing multiple projects and balancing long-term strategies with immediate priorities. You thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments, remaining organized and focused as you navigate complex situations. We work in a hybrid model, and you should expect to split your time between working in the office and working remotely, with flexibility based on the role and the business needs. We currently have an office in downtown Toronto and will eventually be establishing offices in other provinces. Should you currently work in a province where we do not have an office, you will remain remote until we establish an office.
