About Us
STEM Innovation Academy is a public charter school in Calgary serving Grades 7–12. Our high school campus, located in Calgary\'s University Innovation Quarter, serves 915 students in Grades 10–12 and continues to grow as one of Alberta\'s most in-demand STEM programs.
Our mission is to inspire the next generation to be knowledgeable creators, innovators, and responsible leaders. At the high school level, we combine rigorous academic programming with authentic STEM experiences, leadership development, and post-secondary pathways. Required Education and Experience
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education
- Experience in new media industry is valued
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Collaboratively work with Options team members and team lead to support student learning in our STEM options program.
- Ability to learn and develop as a professional – willingness to learn.
- High level of organization and efficient project management; flexibility and adaptability in managing multiple class projects.
- Student centered approach and a willingness to personalize learning to the needs of the student. Provide formative and summative assessment to students on identified learning outcomes throughout the term.
- Foster positive relationships with students to create an atmosphere of trust and encouragement in the classroom.
- High school STEM Electives fall into 3 strands: Design and Engineering, Computational Thinking and New Media. This position would fall into the New Media strand and will be taught to a senior level, grade 11 and 12.
Position Specifications
- Ability and willingness to teach intermediate and advanced COM credits up to grade 12. COM credits focus on: Media, Animation, Photography, and Graphic Design.
- Familiarity with a wide range of Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects) is essential. Familiarity with Davinci Resolve is an asset.
- Familiarity with Autodesk suite products beneficial, such as: Fusion 360, Maya 3D (or Blender).
- To lead in the effective and efficient management of the physical resources of the Department, including but not limited to cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, camera supports, etc.
- To assist or lead in the ordering of equipment for the department.
- Commit to ongoing curriculum enhancements and development.
