Overview

Health Care Shift Lead

Site Description: Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (CNRHC) is one of two acute care referral centres in the central region. It has about 130 acute care beds, 15 transitional LTC beds and offers a number of specialty services including anesthesia, general internal medicine, general surgery, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, pathology, psychiatry, urology, radiology, otolaryngology, and dermatology. There are between 45 to 55 full‑time physicians, general practice, and specialists providing services in the Grand Falls‑Windsor Area. In addition to 24‑hour on‑site emergency physician coverage, this centre provides advanced diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and other investigative services.

Position Details

Position: Full‑Time Shift Lead

Site: Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre

Overtime: Overtime after 48 hours

Hours: Day time shifts (some weekends may be required)

Payrate: $22.75

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the operations of the team in conjunction with the needs of the site.
• Ensure all site staff adhere to all Paladin Security Policies and NL Health Services Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain regular communication and engagement with NL Health Services site Management.
• Ensure all Security Officers have received mandatory site orientation, training and required compliance training.
• Provide superior customer service skills, think quickly on your feet and defuse difficult situations.
• Motivate staff and recommend commendations to their respective Supervisor.
• Document and investigate security incidents and complaints, ensuring all proper documentation is forwarded in accordance with the chain of command in a timely manner.
• Complete daily paperwork including advanced reports, sign‑in sheets, overtime approvals, shift swaps authorizations and incident reports; check for updated documents from the client; handle any forms or information left by staff for filing or follow‑up.
• Supervise the security officers assigned to the site and act as a resource for security issues in accordance with the health authority and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with departmental site schedule, ensuring all shifts are covered and providing coverage where needed.
• Attend unscheduled and scheduled meetings and cover last‑minute bookings for sick employees or shift coverage if necessary.
• Perform site patrols and respond to all necessary codes and calls.
• Assist with conducting regular fire drills and security education sessions; maintain records and prepare incident reports and other safety and security incident documentation.
• Perform other duties as requested by the client NL Health Services in conjunction with Paladin management.

Prerequisites

• Valid First Aid & CPR – Level C (from a CSA‑approved vendor)
• Clean criminal background check and vulnerable sector check
• COVID vaccine – two doses
• Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two‑step TB skin test
• Valid class 5 Driver License
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
