Full-time

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is seeking a skilled, dependable, and safety-focused Head Guard to provide on-shift supervision and operational leadership at the Niagara Pool and/or St. Davids Pool. Reporting to the Recreation Program Specialist and working closely with the Aquatics Coordinator, this role supports aquatic staff, program delivery, facility operations, and regulatory compliance while actively participating in lifeguarding and instructional duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-shift supervision and operational oversight of aquatic facilities, staff performance, and program delivery.
  • Actively participate in lifeguarding and aquatic instruction to support safe and effective programming.
  • Coach, mentor, and support aquatic staff in accordance with Lifesaving Society standards and Town policies.
  • Ensure compliance with cash handling and ACTIVENet Point-of-Sale procedures, including reconciliation and reporting.
  • Support staff training, scheduling adjustments, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with Public Pools Regulation 565, Ministry of Health guidelines, and health and safety requirements.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and act as a positive on-deck presence for patrons and staff.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor.
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (NL) certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society certifications including Lifesaving Instructor, Emergency First Aid Instructor, Swim Instructor, and Aquatic Supervisor training.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certification.
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership, accountability, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with ACTIVENet or ability to learn quickly.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays at multiple locations.
Working Conditions
  • Seasonal position with variable hours based on operational requirements.
  • Work is conducted at outdoor aquatic facilities.
