THE OPPORTUNITY

THE OPPORTUNITY: We are currently seeking a Government Relations Summer Student to join our Government Relations team. Reporting to the Manager, Government Relations and Policy, the successful candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, pay attention to detail, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The work term will commence May 2026 and will last approximately 4 months.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of the Senior Government Relations Advisors, the student will:

  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate potentially significant emerging policy issues and help to understand how they interact with ARC’s business plans
  • Develop and refine briefing notes and presentations on key policy issues in support of senior leadership engagements
  • Support the development of policy positions, advocacy strategies, submissions, communications strategies, and materials for managing policy issues
  • Analyze and compare Canadian energy policy developments with other jurisdictions such as the European Union and United States
  • Assist in coordinating meetings, stakeholder engagements, and events related to government relations, including scheduling, logistics, and materials preparation
  • Provide support in maintaining and updating database of relevant legislative/regulatory documents, as well as key contacts within government agencies
  • Monitor media coverage and public discourse related to energy and environmental policies, providing summaries and insights to the team
  • Support the preparation of reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, providing updates on government relations activities and policy developments
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC
  • This position is ideally suited for students entering the second or third year of a Bachelor's program in Economics, Business, Political Science or Public Policy and are returning to their studies in the following term
  • A keen interest in government relations and emerging Canadian energy and environmental policy developments
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; being able to explain and present information in a clear, accurate and understandable manner
  • Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of team
