A First Nation organization in Ontario is seeking a Governance & Treaty Analyst to assist in the planning and implementation of the Strategic Plan. The role involves collaborating with Ogimaa and Council and requires a strong background in community development and consultation processes. Candidates should have a relevant degree, at least 7 years of experience in planning, and fluency in Anishinaabemowin. This is a full-time position offering a regular employment status.

The Governance and Treaty Analyst reports to the Enaagdenjged and to the Ogimaa and Council.
The Analyst will work with, M’Chigeeng First Nation Ogimaa and Council on the planning, development, and implementation of the Strategic Plan. A key responsibility of the Analyst is to monitor the internal and external environment, identify risks and opportunities, develop plans, assist in lobbying and sourcing funding. The Analyst will assist in Treaty and Traditional Governance Research, Community Consultation and Community Information Sessions.
The Analyst will work on processes to be instituted within the M’Chigeeng First Nation Administration and Governance including but not limited to: Consultation Processes, Alternative Dispute Models, assist with providing the education system with curriculum to be implemented in local schools, traditional governance models etc. The Analyst will collaborate with all departments under M’Chigeeng First Nation. The Analyst will assist in developing a rights-based approach to community development by sharing and providing treaty- based information and documentation as is relevant to the First Nation’s interests within consultation and accommodation processes. The Analyst shall also assist the Ogimaa and Council with the 1990 Land Claim Settlement, the UCCMM Manitoulin Project, the Lakebed and Islands Claim, the Robinson Huron Annuities Claim, any outstanding specific claims related to M’Chigeeng First Nation and any other initiatives as required and or mandated by Ogimaa and Council. The Analyst shall also assist the Ogimaa and Council with any specific claim related to M’Chigeeng First Nation and any other initiatives as required and or mandated by Ogimaa and Council.

CRC/VSS Rationale: M’Chigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a clear VSS Certificate and the CRC must have a record clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence and theft. The CRC and VSS must be current (30 days) and must be an Original.
