Overview
Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp (Driftpile Children’s Lodge) is a community-based and family-oriented organization dedicated to providing care, protection, and well-being for all Driftpile Cree Nation children in a preventative manner, promoting healing for children, families, and the community. A coordinated, holistic, and interdisciplinary approach forms the foundation of the Agency, ensuring that the developmental needs of children, youth, and families are met with respect for their cultural identity, customs, traditions, beliefs, and values.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Family & Community Support Supervisor (FCS S) works to tailor supports or identify supports within Edmonton and Southern Alberta for children, youth, and families to prevent or reduce risk and promote permanency and better outcomes. The incumbent also establishes or enhances existing relationships and partnerships with community resources and CKAM staff in Driftpile to provide services to children and their families. The FCSS will assist with the oversight of FCS Practice Specialists, including assisting with case planning, performance management, and creating a positive team atmosphere.
Duties & Responsibilities
Needs Assessment
- Support the Practice Specialists’ assessment of children or youth at risk, and families to identify the issues contributing to the current situation and related factors (e.g., Parental Capacity, Child Development, and Environmental Factors).
- Guide the analysis of multiple contributing factors increasing the risk of children or youth, and make recommendations around appropriate strategies and support that will keep the child and family together (e.g., social, health, environmental, client’s motivation, capacity and opportunity to make changes to resolve the intervention concerns).
- Ensure practice specialists creatively engage and work with the family members to assist the family to understand their situation and develop a path forward together as part of their case plan.
- Enable or support conflict resolution between family members, families and service teams where appropriate. Make referrals to formal or informal alternative dispute resolution supports and/or facilitates family group conferencing for resolution of issues in support of the children or youth at risk.
- Attend case conferences as needed.
Case Plan Management
- Advocate for children or families in the community and link to services, and collaborate with Driftpile’s Family & Community Support and Family Preservation teams to further advocate for linkages.
- Collaborate with CKAM team in Driftpile and Edmonton to create cohesive wrap-around services between the two locations.
- Support the Family & Community Support team in assessing the level of risk, make key decisions and respond in a timely manner. Collaborate with Family & Community Support, Intensive Services or with Preservation team as needed.
- Oversee services provided, obtain progress updates from the practice specialists, and approve the termination of services.
Community Preservation
- Maintain sound working relationships with services and support providers.
- Identify opportunities for new or revised supports to address prevention at both a community level and a family level.
- Collaborates with community members and organizations to support community capacity (improve access) to provide services to children or youth at risk and families.
- Participate in networking and developing communities of practice.
- Develops and/or delivers public education.
CKAM Program Administration
- Complete timely/accurate documentation (forms, records and file requirements according to file standards) and keep all records up to date.
- Participate in CKAM Program planning and reporting, including data collection, summary and analysis as needed.
- Collaborate and provide back-up as needed for other team members.
Program Team Supervision
- Guide and support Family & Community Support department activities, in consultation with Post Majority and Family & Community Support Director.
- Promote professional development of all staff; establish unit and individual objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate performance on a regular basis to ensure adherence to professional standards and Programs policies and procedures.
- Provide case consultation with staff members and participate in case conferences on complex or contentious cases to support staff.
- Participate in cases before the Tribunal and abide by its decisions, and translate outcomes into ongoing practice.
- Develop and maintain systems to assist in building unit morale, provide support to staff and develop staff communication networks to enhance service delivery.
General
- Ensuring policies, practices, and procedures comply with professional standards and provincial and federal regulatory requirements.
- Fully comply with all Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp (CKAM) policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in the field of Social Services preferred; equivalences will be considered.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience with knowledge of regional community resources.
- Experience overseeing frontline workers.
- Knowledge of CKAM issues and practices and their impact on children and families; services to children, family dynamics and an understanding of the sensitive situations families experience.
- Experience in development and participation of case planning with children and families.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Excel (spreadsheets and pivot tables), PowerPoint, database applications and e-mail, team meetings, and video conferencing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines and work without direct supervision.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver's abstract, to be presented at time of interview.
- Fluency in Cree is an asset.
- Criminal, Vulnerable and Child Intervention Check(s) will be required to be presented at time of interview.
