Are you a skilled operator with a passion for keeping your community running smoothly? The City of Owen Sound is hiring an Equipment Operator 1 to help maintain vital infrastructure, including roads, bridges, sewers, sidewalks, and more. This hands‑on role is essential to ensuring safe and efficient public services year‑round.

What You’ll Do

As an Equipment Operator 1, you’ll:

  • Operate a variety of equipment, including snowplows, loaders, backhoes, street sweepers, and sidewalk machines.
  • Perform winter control operations, asphalt and sewer repairs, stump removal, roadside maintenance, and other assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate daily work records and ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Support emergency response and cleanup efforts as needed.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience:
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating relevant equipment in a public works or contractor setting.
Skills & Certifications:
  • Valid Ontario D.Z. Driver’s Licence with a clean abstract.
  • Proven ability to operate heavy and light equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Experience with a grader, vac truck, and other large equipment, and municipal experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Outlook, work tracking software).
  • Preference given to candidates with concrete experience.
