Job description
Overview

Nova Scotia Power’s 3-year Rotational Engineer in Training (EIT) program is designed to develop EITs’ technical and leadership skills to become technical and people leaders. Throughout this program, EITs work with a variety of teams across the business, including the operational areas of Energy Delivery. By the end of the program, you will have fulfilled 36 months of work experience toward the Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation. The position starts in June 2026 and is primarily based in Halifax Regional Municipality, NS, with some travel to other areas of the province as required.

The Energy Delivery department may include work in design and maintenance for transmission lines and substations, monitoring and improving system performance, safety and regulatory standards, and integrating renewable energy sources and projects to enhance reliability and customer experience. The program currently seeks four (4) Engineer-In-Training positions.

This is a safety sensitive position, and the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy, including a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test. You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations and for environmental performance related to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Rotate through various Energy Delivery roles and locations (e.g., Field Operations, Power System Security, Reliability, Asset Management).
  • Receive training and experience in both office and field engineering work.
  • Prepare plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates and bills of materials for a variety of projects.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with established codes, standards, engineering practices, drawings and specifications.
  • Perform routine technical surveys and inspections and prepare reports.
  • Respond to storm events and participate in power restoration efforts.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical and Industrial) and graduating by June 2026.
  • Registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable to learning new computer applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal development.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and willingness to support emergency power restoration outside normal business hours.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and complete a full background check, including a Criminal Record check.
