Embryologist-in-training

Department: Laboratory

Reports To: Laboratory Director

Location: Vancouver Clinic

Work Schedule: 4-day on, 4 -day off rotation; 37.5 hours per week.

Overview:

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose, and Commitment of Olive Fertility Centre:

Supporting the Embryology area of the Laboratory, and reporting to the Laboratory Director, this position is pivotal to the organization. This role focuses on clinical embryology in the field of fertility. Previous experience in Embryology is desirable but not required as training in Embryology is available for a strong candidate.

  • Thaw of Cryopreserved Sperm
Embryology

  • Sample Accession, Identification and Labeling
  • Patient Identification/Record Keeping
  • Media Preparation
  • Media Quality Control
  • In Vitro Fertilization/ICSI
  • Sperm Shuttle
  • Fertilization check
  • Grading Embryos
  • Embryo Culture/Extended Culture
  • Embryoscope
  • Laser Assisted Hatching
  • Trophectoderm Biopsy/Processing of cells for PCR
  • Transfer, Shipping and Receiving of Frozen Embryos and Eggs
  • Discard of Abnormal/Unwanted Frozen Embryos
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or Biological Sciences from an accredited university.
  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • Previous embryology experience is an asset.

  • Independent and confident with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in an environment subject to changing deadlines, stress, and focus in a busy environment.
  • Ability to discuss intimate medical topics in a professional, compassionate manner.
  • Professional, friendly demeanour that can effectively defuse difficult situations and put patients at ease.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.
  • Proven ability creating effective tracking systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 50 lbs.
  • Calm, pleasant demeanour with strong telephone skills: pleasant tone and receptive voice.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
