Job description
Overview

Report directly to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing and managing the design and detail engineering activities of industrial electrical equipment and products, including development of electrical drawings, sizing of electrical components, preparation of bill of materials, and technical support for other departments. Working knowledge of CSA and UL standards, hazardous location classification, and requirements is required. PLC programming knowledge and/or experience is preferred. This position requires full-time onsite presence every day for close interaction with the fabrication and engineering teams at our manufacturing facility.

Primary Duties

Team Leadership & Employee Management
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on the design, specification, and implementation of electrical systems and control panels.
  • Provide status updates to the Engineering Manager and Project Management Team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in North America, Europe, and Asia to review and finalize electrical schematics, layouts, single-line diagrams, and control system designs.
Engineering/Technical Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and approve drawings, bills of materials, and other engineering documentation.
  • Review project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during all phases of design and manufacturing.
  • Issue technical documents and drawing packages for product manufacture.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to internal departments (Sales, Production, Purchasing, Quality) and external clients.
  • Participate in client meetings, kick-off meetings, design reviews, and operation meetings.
  • Ensure all electrical control panels meet regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal quality standards.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries to maintain delivery deadlines.
  • Follow all company procedures.
  • Participate in commissioning, testing, troubleshooting of electrical systems both remotely and on-site when required.
  • Maintain data, files, and document records.
Safety
  • Ensure a safe workplace in compliance with safety laws, regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
Education And Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SEE Electrical, and/or SOLIDWORKS Electrical.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant industrial experience focusing on power systems, control systems, and automation.
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming is preferred.
  • Familiarity with standards such as Canadian Electrical Code, CSA standards, NFPA 70, UL standards, IEC standards for hazardous areas, ATEX, EMC directives.
Skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in electrical design.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems used in manufacturing is preferred.
