Job summary

RespiteServices.com is seeking compassionate and creative Direct Support Workers to provide meaningful respite for individuals with disabilities. Successful candidates will support families by offering care and supervision tailored to individual needs in a community setting. Variable and negotiable hours are available for part-time or full-time work, with a commitment to quality life experiences.

Qualifications

  • 1 year experience supporting children/adults with physical/developmental disabilities required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check (not older than 6 months) required.

RespiteServices.com is a community database linking workers to families who are seeking energetic, creative and compassionate people interested in becoming a Direct Support Worker providing meaningful respite to someone who may have a developmental disability, autism, dual diagnosis and / or a physical disability. These workers would be independent from RespiteServices.com while creating a working relationship with families in need of support.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide safe, stimulating and recreational support both in the home and in the community.
  • Provide care and supervision according to the individuals’ needs.
  • Provide respite / support services as requested by the parent / guardian.
  • Be punctual, reliable and respectful of the family.
  • Network with community groups, facilitate inclusion and act as a positive role model.

Requirements :

  • Ability and willingness to work with persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to work on your own.
  • Experience providing care and support to persons with disabilities.
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Effective communication skills with both verbal and non-verbal populations.
  • Commitment to providing quality life experiences in home and in the community.
  • Provide a current Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check (not older than 6 months).
  • Provide 2 References.
  • First Aid and CPR is an asset.

Hours of Work :

  • Variable hours (before school, mornings, afternoons, after-school, evenings, overnight, weekends, summer). Working hours are negotiated between worker and family.
  • Part-time, and / or Full-time.

Required Experience :

Experience supporting children / adults with physical / developmental disabilities is required : 1 year.
