Qualifications

  • Coordinate and oversee contractor work as required.
  • Assist with maintenance and emergency call-outs.

HVAC Technician

Location: Facility Services
40 hours weekly
Commencing: February 1, 2026

Red Deer Public Schools is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform skilled HVAC and mechanical maintenance, along with routine facility upkeep, to ensure school division buildings and grounds are safe, secure, clean, and fully operational. This role supports healthy indoor air quality and a functional environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications & Certifications
  • Preference given to candidates with a current Gasfitter A-Class certificate
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Journeyman Certificate (or actively working toward one)
  • WHMIS
  • TDG Certification
  • HRAI Certification (refrigerant handling)
  • 4th Class Power Engineering (asset)
  • First Aid (asset)
Experience & Technical Knowledge
  • Journeyman experience in a related trade, including heating and cooling systems
  • Experience with hydronic, pneumatic, and Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls and related technologies
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety and occupational hazards
Physical & Functional Requirements
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, bending, and working at heights
  • Safely operate ladders, lifts, tools, and equipment
  • Basic smartphone and computer skills
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications, and prioritize work orders
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems and ensure acceptable indoor air quality
  • Operate and monitor BMS systems
  • Follow safety procedures, complete hazard assessments, and report deficiencies
  • Document labour and materials accurately
  • Coordinate and oversee contractor work as required
  • Assist with maintenance, hauling, construction projects, snow removal, graffiti removal, and emergency call-outs
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, workspaces, and inventory to district standards

Required knowledge, education, abilities and skills are as per the Job Description (available from People Services). Pay rate is per the current collective agreement with C.U.P.E. Local 1012.
