Position Overview

The Deputy Site Manager (DSM) at the Cormorant Main Operating Base (MOB) in Comox, BC is responsible to the Site Manager (SM) for the coordination of all activities in support of aircraft undergoing scheduled maintenance, second level maintenance shops, material inventory and control, Aircraft Maintenance Support Equipment (AMSE) and tool control while in adherence to overall scheduling and standards of maintenance at the site. As the Person Responsible for Assignment of Authority (PRAA), he administers the technical training program in support of the maintenance qualifications and authorizations of the MOB technicians.

What You Will Do
  • Supervise MOB shops, hangar and shop staff — ensure maintenance, cleanliness, training and compliance.
  • Work with the Production Supervisor to assign crews/shifts, schedule aircraft maintenance, select aircraft for flight or deployment, and assign overtime.
  • Monitor aircraft status and brief Site Manager on corrective & scheduled maintenance and mission‑capable readiness.
  • Attend daily squadron briefings and other operational briefings as required.
  • Act as Site Manager / PASMA / PRAA when required.
  • Co‑chair and participate in the OH&S Committee; lead health & safety initiatives.
  • Liaise with AMO, ATO, material management, operations staff, aircrew and external contractors or authorities to support flying operations, deployments, and detachments.
  • Plan and supervise corrective and preventive maintenance (including PIM inspections) to meet flight‑scheduling and airworthiness standards.
  • Audit and manage aircraft servicing sets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Mentor Crew Chiefs for succession planning and advancement; provide training oversight.
  • Ensure all crew complete required training; maintain a clean, organized hangar/shop/office environment.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Perform Quality System duties (in relief of QSSC) when required.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
What You Will Bring
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, including, but not limited to, power plant, flight controls, dynamic systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, environmental, basic structures, avionic and power generation and distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of airworthiness requirements as defined in the Technical Airworthiness Manual (TAM) and Maintenance Process Manual (MPM).
  • Thorough knowledge of DND Flight Safety program.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Company Quality System.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting technical documentation such as maintenance manuals, work packages, drawings, blueprints and Standard Plant Procedures.
  • Ability to use standard computer programs and such specialized ones as may be necessary in the performance of the duties.
  • Possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in aircraft maintenance is required.
  • Progressive experience in the management and leadership of an aircraft maintenance organisation, with experience in supporting operational flying programs and heavy maintenance operations and support sections/Shops.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
