The Team

We’re a dedicated team of seven - Justice of the Peace, Deputy District Registrar, court clerks, accounting clerk, manager, and supervisor - who take pride in supporting each other and the work we do. The Role

As a Court Clerk, you will support the effective administration of justice by coordinating court operations, managing records and exhibits, and facilitating courtroom proceedings. You will ensure procedural compliance, maintain data accuracy, and support staff through training and mentorship. The role also promotes equitable access to justice by providing clear, respectful, and inclusive information to all court users, recognizing their diverse backgrounds and needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of two years’ administrative support or customer service experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of one-year previous work experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and working with standard computer applications and software programs (e.g., Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Keyboard speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Valid B.C. drivers’ licence.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in court programs and applications (e.g., JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, CCD).
  • Experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
  • One year of previous work experience in a legal environment.
About this Position

This is a temporary opportunity until August 28, 2026. This position may be extended or become permanent. This position is based in Smithers. This position has full time on-site requirements. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies. Please refer to MyHR for more information on Temporary Market Adjustments.
