What You’ll Be Doing

As a member of CIBC’s team, the Consultant, Business Controls is responsible for effectively assessing risk and providing risk management investigation and corrective action services that support multi-segment line management in alignment with regulatory requirements. The role leverages advanced understanding of high-risk processes across all segments, utilizing strong problem-solving skills to investigate, analyze, and deliver informed recommendations on compliance issues, operational controls, risk assessment, and control activities. The Consultant, Business Controls exercises independent judgment in determining work methods and approaches, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to exchange, verify, and discuss information and best practices. Serving as a resource integrator for their area, the role independently documents research findings, analyses, and calculations, and develops models, detailed plans, reports, and conclusions to support decision-making processes.

How you\'ll succeed
  • Compliance – tier one investment compliance monitoring, controls testing and design, risk assessment and due diligence of all mutual fund and other portfolios managed by CAMI including sub-advisor funds (including a supervisory review of Institutional Marketing Materials prior to dissemination and provide training to the various line of business), in accordance with regulatory requirements, Business Controls’ compliance monitoring methodology, risk rating and the annual monitoring plan.

  • Investigations – to assess whether adequate key controls are in place and operating effectively. Expected to complete and document on a timely basis the results of reviews and tests that will be used to assist the Business Controls team on an ongoing basis; assess significant changes at an early stage, identify any new or emerging trends and/or risks, and discuss / propose recommendations to enhance operational processes controls; seek resolution and implementation of an action plan to address the highlighted observation.

  • Understanding of Asset Management Investment Compliance – will facilitate the monitoring to ensure adherence with legal and regulatory requirements, corporate policies and guidelines mutually agreed by the business and portfolio managers.

  • Oversight: Ongoing monitoring of CIBC’s policy and regulators requirements related to Social Media and Email surveillance to ensure that our brand, reputation, clients, and information are protected and that standards of professionalism, honesty, and integrity are maintained.

  • Standards Diligence: Ongoing monitoring with CIBC’s applicable Regulatory Requirements related to the prevention of Bribery and Corruption; the Gift and Entertainment monitoring tool supports one of the components set out CIBC’s Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (ABAC) Policy.

  • Share your knowledge and assist team members with their reviews and help to implement changes as required to strengthen the processes. Ensure that the working files are documented clearly for other internal and external compliance teams to understand and rely upon consultation.

Who you are
  • You have a university degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, with demonstrated experience of two plus years of asset management compliance reviews, or related experiences.

  • You have working knowledge of different financial markets, asset classes, National Instrument 81-102, National Instrument 31-103 and National Instrument 81-107 and relevant OSC Staff Notices such as CSA Staff Notice 31-325.

  • You are able to accurately assess, within a strict timeline and often competing time lines, sensitive requests and prioritize your workload/tasks accordingly in a fast paced and pressured environment.

  • You understand that success is in the details. You notice things that others do not. You are an independent and critical thinker, whose demonstrated skills allow for informed decisions, evaluations and proposals. Connect various subject matters with ease.

  • You have exceptional communication and inter-personal skills which will allow you to build working relationships across Business Controls internal and external stakeholders at all times by demonstrating CIBC Core Values of Trust, Teamwork and Accountability.
