We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team and support a major rail infrastructure project. In this role, you will lead the negotiation, drafting, review, and management of contracts, subcontracts, and related documents, with a focus on risk management, compliance, and protecting company interests.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized commercial support to estimating and operations teams in preparing and responding to contract bids and proposals.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to achieve favourable outcomes.
  • Draft, review, and interpret contracts and legal documents to ensure alignment with agreed commercial terms.
  • Manage prime and subcontractor agreements throughout their lifecycle, including execution, performance monitoring, procurement activities, deliverables, timelines, and close-out.
  • Collaborate with project teams, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to address contract changes, disputes, claims, and related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with commercial requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies; conduct audits, implement corrective actions, and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Identify and evaluate potential commercial risks and liabilities, implementing effective mitigation strategies in consultation with legal and insurance partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate effective contract administration and communication.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of related work experience in civil construction contract documents, claims, litigation support, and contract negotiation.
  • Post-secondary education in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience negotiating and resolving contractual risks while recommending practical mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of various contracting models (e.g., CM at Risk, Design-Build, Lump Sum, T&M, P3), with experience in claims management and dispute resolution considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of commercial, contractual, and project risks within the construction industry.
  • Ability to identify and address issues in contract language, with proven skill in advocating for appropriate commercial terms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks across various project teams and business units.
