Efficiency. Expertise. Integrity. The QC Inspector will be responsible for performing and completing quality checks and inspections and assisting the project team by providing accurate and timely quality support on the project. They will assist the project team by providing quality-related support to the operation to ensure quality standards are upheld. Schedule for this position will be discussed upon hire with the successful applicant.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections and quality checks in the field, regardless of weather, on upcoming, ongoing, and completed work.
  • Ensure that all QA/QC activities are understood and implemented according to company, client, regional, and regulatory standards.
  • Complete quality surveillance reports, RFIs, document control, manage technical aspects of project and required documentation, perform progressive turnover, manage all quality documentation at a project level under the direction of the quality manager.
  • Educate and provide recommendations to the project team with regards to project quality requirements and provide improvement initiatives to the QA/QC Manager and project team.
  • Continuously monitor construction activities for deviations from specification and ensure deviations are immediately brought to the attention of the construction team and/or addressed appropriately.
  • Communicate and coordinate with project management team to ensure all customer concerns regarding quality are addressed efficiently and effectively.
  • Gather information pertaining to any quality-related construction concerns to identify issues, consult, problem-solve, and provide solutions for issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement and zero defects through quality plans and processes.
  • Write and maintain various formal quality management documents such as checklists, exhibits, and records appropriate to existing and emerging regulator, client and internal needs.
  • Minimize deficiencies and reworks by ensuring construction team has access to all required project documentation and assisting field supervisors with identifying areas of concern.
Competencies and Certification
  • Civil construction background; oil sands and heavy construction experience considered an asset
  • Degree or diploma in engineering, engineering tech, geophysics, or geology
  • Strong verbal communication, conflict management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and interpret standards, drawings, and technical documents
  • Ability to spend large parts of the day in the field walking across various terrains in varying weather conditions
  • Strong note-taking, organization, and document control skills
  • Ability to handle tight deadlines and manage workload
  • Knowledge and experience with site safety procedures
  • Existing field experience on civil related projects
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Project, Excel) and Bluebeam Revu
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Teams (Tasks by Planner, Lists, etc.)
  • Experience driving 1-ton trucks on and off road and ability to identify passable terrain and navigate changing routes
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in civil earthworks quality control
  • Comfortable using Excel formulas and report generation
  • Minimum of 4 years driving experience in winter conditions (road test may be required)
