About the Position
The Simulation Hub at Lethbridge Polytechnic is seeking applications for a casual Simulation Instructor within the Centre for Health and Wellness. Casual instructors are needed during the fall and winter semester of the academic year and the workload varies based on applicant experience and education. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is deeply committed to educating and inspiring students, has a passion for teaching and learning, and promotes psychologically safe, diverse, and inclusive environments.
Position Details
- Delivering high‑quality simulation‑based education to a variety of health care students (programs may include Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing After Degree, Massage Therapy, Practice Nurse, Primary Care Paramedic, and Therapeutic Recreation Gerontology).
- Ensuring the integration of simulation technology, educational strategies, and simulation best practices into high, moderate, and low‑fidelity activities aligning with program curriculum.
- Mentoring and co‑creating scenarios, events, and activities with faculty, staff, students, and volunteers.
- Collaborating with programs and internal/external stakeholders and practice partners to ensure relevant, trending, and pertinent simulation scenarios.
- Cultivating an environment that encourages inquiry, psychological safety, and the appreciation of evidence‑informed practice.
- Attending scheduled team simulation instructor meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, registered in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta / College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
- Current post‑graduation nursing acute care experience (i.e., medical/surgical adult care and/or specialty areas) with a minimum of 3 years current clinical experience.
- Knowledge of simulation systems/processes and programs within the Centre for Health and Wellness.
- Exceptional time management, organization, planning, communication, and priority‑setting skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement.
- Proficient with computer technology and Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to actively participate in team projects and initiatives outside of regular instructional hours (recruitment events, coaching volunteers, role‑playing patients, simulation preparation and development, etc.).
- Demonstrates a consistent history of respectful, professional, and collaborative engagement with colleagues and teams, with a clear commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current post‑graduation nursing experience in maternity and/or pediatrics.
- Knowledge of Simulation Hub systems/processes and programs within the Centre for Health and Wellness.
- Strong understanding and experience working in simulation environments (academic or hospital based).
- Previous teaching experience (i.e., as a preceptor, academics – lab, theory, and/or clinical setting).
- Formal simulation education courses (i.e., Simulation Canada, Society for Simulation in Healthcare).
Salary
Commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the current Faculty Association Agreement.
