Job description
Position Overview

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Carpenter works within the restoration division. This role does not hold a carpentry certification but offers an intermediate to advanced understanding of carpentry fundamentals in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Job Duties
  1. Demonstrate skills in the safe operation of hand and power tools, including (but not limited to) temporary generators, ladders, table saws, routers, and sanding equipment.
  2. Erecting and disassembly of scaffolding.
  3. Assist with demolition and debris disposal.
  4. Prepare material take-offs and read blueprints.
  5. Set up and take down poly containment and drop sheets to accommodate work.
  6. Possess knowledge of building codes and construction math.
  7. Have intermediate to advanced experience in the installation of insulation and vapor barriers.
  8. Have intermediate to advanced experience in wood and steel stud framing applications.
  9. Possess finish carpentry skills, including cutting and installing wood framing, trim, baseboards, casing, doors, frames, and sheathing.
  10. Secure exterior building materials such as roofing and siding when required.
  11. Build, erect, and secure temporary and permanent partitions using various building materials.
  12. Maintain good housekeeping to ensure a safe and clutter-free worksite.
  13. Provide excellent customer service.
  14. Work under time constraints to meet specific deadlines.
  15. Pay attention to detail and safeguard property and information.
  16. Participate in safety practices, following all policies and procedures, including safe operation of machinery and equipment.
  17. Comply with Belfor policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  18. Communicate job site conditions and concerns proactively.
  19. This role may involve acting as a "lead" periodically as designated by the manager.
  20. Attend all Belfor-sponsored training courses.
Qualifications
  1. At least 2 years of field experience.
  2. Working towards journeyman carpenter certification is an asset.
  3. Knowledge of tools and materials for job completion.
  4. Experience in construction, restoration, or insurance preferred.
  5. Understanding of customer service principles and practices.
  6. Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per Belfor's vehicle policy.
  7. Ability to work independently or in a team.
  8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Basic computer or tablet/iPad skills.
  11. Willing to work evenings, on call, and weekends as needed.
  12. Periodic travel may be required.
  13. Criminal Record Check required.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent lifting of 5-40 lbs unassisted (35-65% of the time).
  • Occasional lifting over 41 lbs with assistance (up to 50% of the time).
  • Access and mobility in tight spaces.
  • Fit testing for half and full face masks, annual certification required.
  • Working at heights over 5 feet periodically.
  • Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
