Your Opportunity
Join Stantec as a Business Center (BC) Practice Leader (BCPL) for the Environmental Services (ES) Team in Quebec. Reporting to the Regional Growth Leader for the Québec region, you will drive technical excellence and project delivery with local and regional clients. The BCPL leads by delivering innovative project and design solutions, high quality execution, and standards for health and safety excellence. The BCPL collaborates with other BC leaders to provide professional services while championing safety, quality, innovation, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong leadership in communication, trust, problem solving, and mentorship.
- Champion Stantec’s Safer Together culture and lead health and safety performance of the BC, including monitoring indicators, communicating health and safety information, and incident investigations.
- As a “seller-doer,” develop and meet top-line goals by contributing to Energy Transition projects as a Client Manager, providing technical leadership in pursuit and projects.
- Collaborate with BC leaders and the Regional Growth Leader to identify and develop project opportunities, create win strategies, understand sector / client needs, competition, and local drivers, and build / develop teams to drive growth.
- Lead and inspire multi-disciplinary teams responsible for Environmental Permitting, ecosystem characterization, impact studies, waste management, climate change, and geomatics.
- Coach / mentor developing professionals and foster an inclusive, diverse culture.
- Identify technical gaps and address them with ES leadership and technical leaders.
- Attract key staff to Stantec’s ES team to facilitate growth.
- Drive technical excellence for projects and proposals within the BC; participate in national technical leadership meetings, initiatives, and innovation strategies.
- Champion Quality Control processes, auditing adherence to the Project Management Framework, and support training of Quality Reviewers and Independent Reviewers.
- Administer risk management and quality assurance related to projects and opportunities, including contract reviews and identifying risk triggers.
- Promote innovation within the BC’s technical disciplines and support ES strategic initiatives and tools (e.g., digital tool development) and the SR&ED tax credit program.
- Support and contribute to the national ES business strategy with accountability for priorities and KPIs, including topline revenue, utilization, gross margin, and operating income; collaborate with national sector leads, clients, account managers, and regional sector staff to identify growth opportunities.
- Contribute to the annual business plan, operating budget, and other resource management processes.
- Develop and manage training programs to support employees’ career development and the delivery of new services.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate in a related field.
- At least 15 years of experience in environmental services, leadership, technical and financial management, business development, and consulting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in French. English knowledge is required to collaborate with internal teams outside Quebec or with clients.
- Ability to balance project execution and line-of-business leadership.
- Strong technical experience in one or more disciplines related to environmental planning and permitting, ecosystem characterization, impact studies at provincial / federal levels, waste management, climate change, and / or geomatics.
- Team-oriented with experience in building, leading, and managing large teams.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a basic understanding of the business challenges of an engineering / environmental consulting firm.
- Awareness of professional practice standards, ethics, risk management, and quality frameworks; ability to clearly convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
