SUMMARY
Reporting to the manager / supervisor, the Tradesperson – Building Operator is responsible for performing maintenance, routine and on-demand services, including Preventive, Predictive activities on devices related to building and hospital equipment. The incumbent will also be required to perform other general trade duties as directed. The Tradesperson - 3rd Class Stationary Engineer is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
At this position level :
- Performs a variety of service work in one or more specialized building systems such as mechanical, electrical / electronic, or machine servicing, etc
- Certified Stationary Engineer
- Works from drawings, schematics, blueprints, job layouts and / or verbal instructions and operates a variety of tools and machines incidental to operations.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Support and demonstrate BGIS Core Values (Unwavering Integrity, Passion for Innovation, Living Sustainability, Delivering Memorable Customer Experiences, Relentlessly Building Team Member Engagement)Performs regular facility maintenance and inspectionProvides observations about facility, grounds and non-technical component conditions and deficiencies, and provides suggestions for enhancements and repairResponds to routine and on-demand service requestsPerforms maintenance on technical and non-technical components within the facilityRecords resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirementsReceives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance work within service maintenance management database. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work requiredAssists in the implementation of preventative maintenance program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified / rectified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintainedParticipates in and assists with facility-related projectsEnsures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection any other applicable requirementsMaintains all assigned tools and parts inventory and arranges for repair and replacement where requiredAssist peers, team members, and others as needed; respectfully request assistance of others where necessaryAssists in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services deliveredRespect the rights of the patient / client and their families in reference to confidentiality, privacy, beliefs and valuesParticipate in change by adapting and contributing new knowledge and skills in their area of expertiseRemain flexible, open and positive in the face of changing needs and demandsLearn to perform tasks through on the job training, mentoring or coachingAttend training programs, in-services, and educational programs and apply new learning on the jobStay aware of current best practice developments and trends in all relevant technical / professional aspects of the roleDecide when outside / additional resources need to be contacted and determine if work is within BGIS contractual scopeOther duties as assigned.Work requirements

Completion of a two-year technical degree or equivalent plus two years’ experience as an Electrical Tradesperson or completion of an apprenticeship program.Requires a Certificate of Qualification as 3rd Class Stationary Engineer , including five or more years’ experience in operations and maintenanceHigh school diploma. Some trades-related training preferred an asset.Requires in-depth knowledge of various maintenance fundamentals sufficient to deal with service and repairs.Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks to the highest caliber, which includes ability to : climb ladders, work inconfined spaces, lift heavy objects weighing up to 50lbs, etc.Must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.May be required to possess a valid driver’s licenseMay be required to use a variety of hand and power tools or forkliftAbility to provide observation about facility conditions and deficiencies, and to provide suggestions for enhancementsAbility to research, learn and gain greater proficiency in applying the following on-the-job – fire, life, safety and building codes and standardsPossess a strong environmental, health and safety mindset.
