Position Summary

Assist Building Custodians and Maintenance Repair in carrying out minor building and equipment repairs, maintaining grounds and performing janitorial duties at Social Housing properties owned by the County of Lambton.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
Building Custodial Duties
  • Clean all common areas including hallways, laundry rooms, garbage rooms, stairwells, washrooms, lounges, elevators, windows and carpets
  • Strip, seal and wax floors
  • Remove garbage
Grounds Maintenance
  • Maintain lawns and gardens
  • Dispose of garbage including large items such as furniture and appliances
  • Paint parking lot lines
  • Tag non-roadworthy vehicles for removal
  • Maintain mowers, leaf blowers and grass trimmers
Building/Unit Maintenance
  • Complete repairs from damages or neglect
  • Clean appliances, cupboards, bathrooms, windows and floors
  • Plumbing repairs including unclogging drains, snaking sewers, repairing faucets etc.
  • Repair/replace electrical hardware such as receptacles, switches, fuses and lights
  • Repair interior walls and exterior porches, aluminum siding, eaves troughs, etc.
  • Maintain air units, heating systems and building safety systems
Other Duties
  • Maintain general building security and ensure doors are properly secured
  • Report complaints and incidents to Property Manager
  • Assist other staff as requested
General
  • Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
  • Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Credentials Required
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Enrolled in a Post-Secondary Program
Experience
  • Experience performing maintenance and janitorial duties.

A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.

Summer Student Eligibility
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Will not have another full-time job
