Are you a Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Veterinary Ophthalmologist ready to launch and lead a new specialty service? Boreal Veterinary Centre in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a dedicated ophthalmologist to establish our Ophthalmology department, with strong mentorship and collaboration from our existing specialist team.

While you’ll have the autonomy to shape your department from the ground up, you won’t be doing it alone. You’ll have mentorship and collaborative support from fellow specialists and experienced RVTs who are eager to expand their knowledge in ophthalmic care.

At Boreal Veterinary Centre, we provide a supportive and progressive environment where veterinary excellence thrives. With 24‑hour staffing and access to state‑of‑the‑art diagnostics — including CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, and a comprehensive in‑house laboratory — we are committed to equipping our new Ophthalmology service with the specialized tools as needed.

As a privately owned practice, we value clinical autonomy and foster innovation and collaborative care. We are excited to welcome an expert in ophthalmology to establish and grow this new service, working alongside our multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional eye health and vision care for our patients.

Position Summary:

As our first Veterinary Ophthalmologist, you will spearhead the creation of our Ophthalmology service, offering diagnostics, medical management, and surgical solutions for a variety of ocular conditions in companion animals.

You will work closely with our Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Oncology, and Anesthesiology teams to ensure integrated patient care. Your role will also include educating and mentoring our veterinary team in ocular health, diagnostics, and surgical techniques.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a department to match your vision, while having the benefit of a strong, supportive network of colleagues and management.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Diplomate status (ACVO/ECVO) or completion of a residency in veterinary ophthalmology and ability to write board examination
  • A team‑first mindset with a passion for teaching and collaborative care
  • Excellent communication skills and clinical judgment
  • A positive, proactive attitude and strong work ethic

Whether you're early in your specialty career or a seasoned ophthalmologist, if you’re eager to make a meaningful impact and build a department aligned with your vision, we’d love to meet you.
