At Beccarian Correctional Care, we prioritize individuals' well-being and long-term recovery from addiction through a holistic, person-centered approach. Our evidence-based practices empower and foster hope, promoting personal growth. We collaborate with government officials and stakeholders to develop customized strategies grounded in recovery-oriented care principles. We drive positive change in creating pathways of recovery from addiction. We are currently seeking a BHN to join our team in the TLU. TLUs are unique Therapeutic Communities within correctional settings, providing inmates (members) an opportunity for evidence-based care for substance use disorders. As a BHN, you play a crucial role in supporting the "+community as method" process. Working alongside TLU members, you participate equally in various activities like recreation and chores, emphasizing membership and modeling behavior. All staff actively participate in the community, ensuring a safe and positive environment.

Through sharing personal experiences with members, you create connections while maintaining professional boundaries and employing \"Rational Authority\" in Therapeutic Community language. This collaborative and objective facilitation drives meaningful change for TLU members, making the community the major catalyst for transformation. Join us and be part of building accessible, effective, and person-centered recovery.

Reporting to the TLU Lead, the BHN\'s primary role is to mentor and engage members in groups to address substance misuse and mental health challenges.

Role-specific Accountabilities
  • Provide therapeutic interventions tailored to the needs and preferences of assigned caseload.
  • Assist in facilitating the weekly program schedule for members, balancing formal therapeutic interventions with unstructured components.
  • Support the implementation of new treatment initiatives.
  • Attend all directed clinical and administrative meetings.
  • Actively participate in clinical review meetings for TLU staff and other sessions.
  • Contribute to the development and review of members\' treatment plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality, ethical boundaries, and professional conduct with TLU members.
  • Offer and receive constructive feedback to promote personal growth and a healthy TLU environment.
  • Actively participate as a valued TLU member, attending groups, supervising and training new staff, and conducting workshops as directed.
  • Assess and provide feedback on the TLU environment to increase member awareness and community function.
  • Serve as a positive role model in behavior, communication, attitude, and adherence to rules.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the service model and quality improvement processes.
  • Support learning experiences for conflict resolution, problem-solving, decision-making, coping under stress, and pro-social behaviors.
  • Respond to crisis and urgent situations.
  • Liaise with family members, correctional, and community agencies as directed.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends & holidays.
  • Travel to other Alberta sites as required for operational coverage.
Qualifications
  • Minimum three (3) years recent related experience, including training or experience in addictions work or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Completion of a formal addiction certification program (CCAD, CIAC, RSG Recognized Recovery Coaching program, etc) would be considered an asset. The program will be considered on a case- by-case basis.
  • Identified work experience in a therapeutic setting, including demonstrated knowledge of problematic substance use and mental health issues.
  • Knowledge and experience with therapeutic interventions, assessment, case management and treatment planning.
  • Experience in working with members from diverse backgrounds and different cultural groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Identified experience working with corrections populations.
  • Lived experience related to addictions and / or mental health and correctional work experience or corrections lived experience an asset.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successfully complete ROSC Solutions Group core educational program and demonstrate a high level of understanding of Therapeutic Community concepts, standards and methods as adapted to a correctional setting.
