Job Description
Role Overview

The AVP, GI Product and Underwriting Strategy is responsible for leading product development and underwriting strategies across the General Insurance (GI) portfolio, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and growth initiatives. This role acts as the business owner throughout the product lifecycle, collaborating closely with internal partners to deliver innovative solutions that meet client needs and drive business performance. Additionally, the AVP attracts and develops a high‑performing team dedicated to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. The position reports directly to the VP of Product, Pricing and Underwriting.

Key Accountabilities
Product
  • Business owner for product development throughout the product life cycle working closely with General Insurance Journey
  • Grow the GI business: contribute to the development of strategic plans, business cases to create and modify product solutions to meet the insurance needs of clients.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal partners including GI Journey, GI Pricing, GI Underwriting, GI Advice Centers, Claims and customer experience to support the development of collaborative solutions to service current and future clients.
  • Leverage relationships with GI Distribution partners to develop and enhance our products and channels to support growth.
  • Support the execution oversight of approved strategic plans and business initiatives
  • Shape the insurance telematics strategy and work with partners to advance the telematics roadmap.
  • Business owner for GI Insurance climate roadmap.
Underwriting
  • Business owner for UW strategy and rules aligned to product/pricing strategies and overall business objectives
  • Work with a variety of stakeholders to review, improve underwriting process to created capacity, speed and enhance automated underwriting and straight through processing capabilities
  • Work with vendor management to optimize usage of underwriting vendors and spends.
  • Engage with regulators and industry forums to influence underwriting practices and advance our underwriting sophistication.

  • General Insurance Expertise: Deep understanding of General Insurance, including underwriting processes and vendor management, to support product and pricing innovation.
  • Strategic Leadership and Execution: Proven experience in translating business objectives into actionable strategies, with a focus on enhancing automation, increasing capacity, and advancing straight‑through processing.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Influence: Strong track record of effective collaboration with internal teams, regulators, and industry forums to elevate underwriting practices and ensure strategic alignment.
  • Communication and Negotiation Skills: Excellent ability to communicate strategies across the organization and negotiate with vendors to optimize underwriting spend and capabilities.
