Quantitative Engineering & Development (QED) Team

The QED team provides a full suite of quantitative development and risk management services to global fixed income Sales and Trading desks, playing a pivotal role in providing quantitative solutions and development.

The team has two core mandates:

  • Deliver top‑tier quantitative and pricing/risk analysis tools for trading desks across the region
  • Responsible for live development request coverage, providing fast and accurate pricing and hedging solutions

This is a fast‑paced and dynamic team who have grown rapidly in line with the Bank's overall growth strategy. The team has an increasing global mandate, focusing on improving efficiencies and providing better quantitative tools to Global Fixed Income desks. Associate Role

Due to continuing business growth, we are looking for a professional with solid STEM background and sound business common sense to join the QED team in Toronto as an Associate.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain valuation and pricing engines for financial derivatives in C++ model library, updating the codebase based on evolving business needs.
  • Improve and update analytical tools for front office trading and sales desks, which involves Python/VBA and UI design.
  • Support the design and implementation of front‑office solutions and strategies aimed at improving trading efficiency and decision‑making processes.
  • Collaborate with other teams in TDS including front office trading and sales desks, technology, risk management, treasury, finance, and compliance to deploy new or enhanced models to production.
  • Contribute to comprehensive model testing to support robustness and reliability.
  • Support daily business requirements through active collaboration with team members to address front office needs.
  • Document implementation details in library codebase and in Model Development Report.
  • Oversee model lifecycles to meet risk management and compliance standards.
  • Assist with trade allocation and coordinate with middle and back‑office staff to address and resolve operational issues, ensuring smooth workflow.
  • Participate in literature reviews and utilize Bloomberg to help ensure models reflect current market practices.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of current markets, trends, and innovations.
  • Idea generation – assist in other areas that suit the candidate's skill set and interests.
  • Entry‑level or 2 years of experience in a front office or quantitative role is preferred.
Job Requirements
  • Strong academic background in a relevant field – Mathematics, engineering, computer science background with a quantitative understanding of statistics and probability.
  • Superior programming skills in a modern programming language (C/C++, Python, Java or equivalent language) and familiarity with object‑oriented design principles. VBA experience is desirable.
  • Strong background of Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet‑based analysis.
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects, demonstrating initiative and delivering results quickly.
  • Ability to solve technical problems and explain the underlying ideas to a non‑technical audience.
  • Familiar with and comfortable with the standard software development process, including but not limited to version control, Jira ticket tracking and code reviews.
  • Knowledge of financial markets is preferred. Understanding fixed income products and financial mathematics is a plus.
