Position Summary
BCIT School of Health Sciences is seeking a temporary, full time (1.0 FTE) Assistant Instructor to support simulation instruction (under the direction of BSN Experiential Learning team) and technical services related to the preparation of experiential learning activities.
The successful candidate will have a comprehensive simulation role in a face to face learning environment and will be an integral part of the BSN Experiential Learning Team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with BSN simulation and student success course preparation, delivery and evaluation
- Demonstrate and give practical instruction in simulation (all modalities) within scope of practice
- Assist with coordination of learning activities and tracking usage of simulation
- Set up for simulation, lab, and student success activities
- Troubleshoot, problem solve, and maintain technology, equipment, methodology and workflow
- Support inventory levels of laboratory supplies
- Perform other administrative duties as required, including accreditation, program review and committee work, attend program meetings
- Undertake related duties as assigned, consistent with this position
Qualifications
- At least 4 years clinical or related experience
- BCCNM registration, or equivalent, preferred
- Teaching experience preferred
- Experience and certification with simulated technology preferred
- Evidence of continuing education in the field
- Microsoft 365 (Sharepoint), Microsoft Office Suite, and Learning Management System

- Has simulation knowledge and technical ability essential to simulation procedures, policies and standards
- Can effectively convey fundamental and complex theory to adult learners
- Takes initiative; works independently and reliably with limited supervision
- Practices effective time management: organizes self and workflow; adapts to changes in workflow and prioritizes to meet deadlines
- Comfortable working in an unstructured environment and in various simulation settings
- Has good problem-solving skills: troubleshoots testing processes and reagents effectively
- Supports a culture of respect, understanding, diversity, equity, inclusion and demonstrates an appreciation for diverse perspectives while working respectfully and collaboratively with students and staff
- Listens, presents and writes effectively; uses communication technology appropriately and effectively
- Has knowledge and/or technical experience in multiple simulation modalities
- Has experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and online learning environments
- Is a competent resource person for students and colleagues
- Desire and willingness to learn, change and be flexible for changes in simulation and nursing education
- Work in fast paced environment that requires problem solving
- Strong interpersonal skills and committed to a collaborative approach to education and training as well as ability to work independently and interdependently when required
- A commitment to BC College of Nurses and Midwives practice standards, including Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-racism and a commitment to uphold these practice standards

Salary Range
Salary Range: $68,182 - $93,143 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
