Job description
Company Description

Our client is a Toronto-based architecture studio focused on well‑designed, zoning‑driven residential projects, with a strong emphasis on multiplex housing, infill, and small urban developments.

The practice is known for combining strong design sensibility with deep technical knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and municipal zoning. The Principal is highly design‑driven and currently leads most creative direction.

Why this role open

The firm needs someone who can step into a more senior technical and client‑facing role to support growing project volume.

Right now, design leadership sits almost entirely with the Principal. This role is being created to bring in someone who can share that responsibility and grow into a true second‑in‑command on projects.

  • Lead and support multiplex and small residential projects

  • Prepare zoning reviews and feasibility studies

  • Produce and coordinate permit and construction drawings

  • Interpret and apply OBC requirements across projects

  • Liaise directly with clients, consultants, and city departments

  • Support design development (not just drafting)

  • Coordinate with planners, engineers, and surveyors

  • Review drawings and ensure technical accuracy

  • Help guide junior staff or external consultants as needed

Must‑haves
  • Experience working on multiplex or small residential projects in Ontario

  • Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code

  • Comfortable dealing with zoning and municipal processes

  • Technologist or Architect background

  • Able to speak directly with clients and consultants

  • Good design judgment, not just technical execution

  • Experience producing permit‑ready drawing sets

  • Proficient in common architectural software (Primarily Revit, some AutoCAD, etc.)

Nice‑to‑haves
  • Experience with Toronto zoning specifically

  • Someone who enjoys being involved in early design thinking

  • Interest in eventually taking on more leadership responsibility

  • Experience mentoring or reviewing junior staff
