Responsibilities
  • Check, clean, and lubricate pumping equipment, chlorination equipment, and compressors.
  • Under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson, adjust and repair waterworks equipment.
  • Find and repair reported water leaks, as well as water mains, valves, and outlets.
  • Use hand and power tools to install water meters.
  • Check and lubricate gas pipeline valves on a regular basis.
  • Use gas detecting devices to conduct routine surveys of gas mains and distribution lines to detect and locate escaping gas.
  • Investigate gas leak reports to determine the exact location and extent of leaks.
  • Excavate the ground to expose gas lines and repair damaged pipes.
  • Keep a record of the work done as well as the location and condition of the pipelines.
  • Provide information on underground gas distribution lines and monitor excavation work to ensure the safety of underground gas facilities.
Requirements
  • Completion of secondary school may be required.
