Job Title: Air Medical Crew - Flight Nurse

Employment Type: Full or Part-Time

We are a lifeline to the community when time and clinical expertise can make all the difference. We are currently looking for Air Medical Crew - Flight Nurse at our Winnipeg base in the Clinical department. Being a member of STARS Air Medical Crew (AMC) means being part of an elite healthcare team that provides lifesaving care to the most critically ill and injured members of our community. Our AMC undertake over 100 hours of advanced clinical training every year to ensure their skills are kept razor sharp and on the cutting edge. We train to deliver the highest standards because our patients need us to be our best.

Key Responsibilities
  • STARS provides advanced care which includes rapid response, assessment, intervention, and safe transport of critically ill or injured patients from the scene of an accident or during inter-facility transfers. Mission response will typically be by helicopter but may also be in fixed wing aircraft or ground ambulance as needed. This service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • On each mission, a Registered Nurse and Registered Paramedic team, supported by a Transport Physician (in-person or virtual) provide critical care for patients in need.
  • The Air Medical Crew will perform within the Scope of Practice as set out by the STARS Medical Director and accepted by the Medical Community and professional regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in fundraising and public relations activities as required.
  • May be assigned a variety of projects and tasks in addition to the responsibilities of an AMC.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of extensive experience in advanced care in a critical care environment
  • Experience in an air medical environment is an asset
  • Current Registered Nurse
  • Licensed in the Province that you will be stationed
  • Valid CPR certificate
  • Current certification of STARS Advanced Skills Institute (ASI) and education requirements in good standing (for internal applicants) or equivalent certifications including ACLS, ITLS and PALS
  • Instructor or coordinator status in ACLS, ITLS, and PALS is an asset
  • Graduate of the STARS Critical Care and Transport Medicine Academy is an asset
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office applications supplemented by ability to utilize data base(s) as required
Bona Fide Occupational Statement
  • All STARS Air Medical Crew (AMC) roles are physically demanding and require overall strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular capabilities
  • All STARS Air Medical Crew (AMC) roles have bona fide occupational requirements (e.g., physical standards, that are integral to fulfilling the role). These are detailed in the AMC Physical Demands Analysis that is shared during the recruitment selection process
  • All STARS Air Medical Crew (AMC) roles are required to wear personal protective equipment
Health & Safety Requirements

This position has been identified as safety sensitive. Employment of the preferred candidate will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment Alcohol and Drug test, Physical Fitness to Work assessment, Audiometric testing, as well as providing proof of immunizations.
