Advanced Pharmacist Medicines Safety

In this post, you will be a key member of the medicines safety team, involved in dynamic workstreams focused on optimising and improving the safe use of medicines throughout the trust.

This role provides an opportunity to take a leadership role in the injectable safety workstream within the Medicines Safety team. The postholder will be involved in implementing and optimising smart infusion pump technology across the trust, including designing and implementing drug‑error reduction software. This includes interpreting a range of resources to define clinical dosing parameters for drugs administered using smart infusion pumps in a variety of clinical areas.

The role offers the chance to expand your expertise and skillset, to be involved in service development or research, and to put your management and leadership skills into action in a supportive setting. The postholder should maintain high standards of pharmaceutical care and ensure timely, effective communication with both the multi‑disciplinary clinical teams and collaborators.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job are active involvement in implementing and optimising smart infusion pump technology across the Trust, learning from incidents and risks, measuring and monitoring safety to ensure the safest use of medicines, optimising processes and systems, and engaging all staff in the medicine safety agenda.

The medicines safety team is a multi‑disciplinary team that aims to promote the safe use of medicines across the trust, improve safety for all our patients, and equip staff with the knowledge and expertise they need to use medicines safely.

Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities

  • Promote the safe use of injectable medicines in accordance with guidance and evidence‑based best practice, and support the implementation of drug‑error reduction software across the Trust.
  • Work with corporate and divisional colleagues to ensure medication risks are identified as part of the dose‑error reduction software infusion pump project; assess risks and ensure risk‑reduction measures are put in place and monitored.
  • Promote a multidisciplinary approach to the implementation and optimisation of smart infusion pump technology.
  • Promote learning and sharing of experiences in risk reduction and improvement methodologies related to infusion pump technology.
  • Participate in audit, research and quality improvement to support medicines safety.
  • Use innovation to support effective patient outcomes and experience, improve cost‑effectiveness, and particularly support safety improvement.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Degree in Pharmacy (Masters) or equivalent
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post‑Graduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or equivalent experience
  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or Patient Safety (or equivalent)
