Job description

Huntington Properties started in 1996, when our company founder, Alan Whitten purchased a single office building in Kanata South. Since then, our organization has evolved into a multi-faceted, full-service, real estate development and property management company that is still consistently growing. Under the guidance of the current leadership team, we manage over 1 million square feet of commercial property across the National Capital Region and now undertake nine figure development projects. The majority of our portfolio includes low-rise commercial office space, retail, warehouse and industrial space plus some residential assets.

The portfolio continues to grow as we explore new investment and development opportunities. We regularly establish partnerships in acquiring and developing commercial properties in the Ottawa area. The goal is to deliver long term returns through cash distributions and capital appreciation with projects that include major retrofits, vacant land developments and building upgrades.

Our company is growing and we are interested in hiring an Accounting Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a fast thinker who likes to solve problems and is able to multi-task and can prioritize work effectively.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with the full cycle accounting for our property management operations, including reporting, month end journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, income statement variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with site managers and property administration to ensure they have accurate and reliable information to prepare reporting and operate the properties.
  • Complete the administration aspects of investor management and oversee preparation of investor packages for quarterly distributions and annual reporting.
  • Complete the administration aspects of cash call tracking, mortgage reporting and property tax.
  • Complete the administration aspects and accounting for our self-storage facility and retail cannabis store(s).
  • Review of cheque runs to ensure accuracy of GL posting and approvals.
  • Assist with the preparation of HST returns.
  • Assist with annual commercial area maintenance reconciliations.
  • Assist with year-end working paper preparation for external accountants.
  • Participate in the implementation of Yardi Voyager.
  • Other tasks assigned by the Senior Accounting Manager or Controller, as required.
  • Providing clerical and administrative support to management as requested.
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Minimum of 2 years in full cycle accounting experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel) proficiency is required.
  • Post Secondary education required (Accounting, Finance, Commerce, etc.).
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Must enjoy working in a team environment.
  • Experience working in property management is an asset.
