Job Summary

Under the direction of the designated Manager, and in close consultation with other College staff and community resources, the incumbent will recommend, provide, and coordinate services to participants which will facilitate those clients’ access to post-secondary training, education, and employment. The Access Facilitator will work to ensure students’ needs are being met and facilitating appointments with the appropriate support services advisors and community resources as required. The Access Facilitator will schedule regular check‑ins with students to determine if extra supports are needed and help students navigate their training and education plans to promote their success both in the program and during their transition into the workforce.

Specific Duties
  • Provide coordination, liaison, and referral services which will promote and facilitate access to post‑secondary education, training, and community resources support participant success.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate casefiles for each individual student indicating their career goals and any issues or concerns they may have in the learning process.
  • Assist in coordinating participants’ entrance and intake/placement assessments, including orientation to the assessment process and preliminary identification of potential learning barriers.
  • Provide an initial assessment of the nature and extent of student concerns to respond appropriately by providing information, booking an advising appointment or referring student to appropriate college/community services, or arranging immediate assistance for crisis situations.
  • Provide/facilitate access to CNC support services to promote student success; schedule and arrange appointments with counsellor, Aboriginal Advisors, and other CNC support service staff, following up as required.
  • Liaise with groups and individuals to obtain and provide training/education information and academic advising.
  • Assist with goal setting, scheduling, and obtaining career information on an individual and small group basis.
  • Assist students with developing and implementing individual training plans and/or educational plans and, when required, appropriate referrals.
  • Provide liaison and advocacy services to facilitate access to community services.
  • Provide coordination, liaison, and services which will assist participants in their transition to the workforce.
  • In collaboration with the program team, assist with coordination, promotion, and liaising with employment partners for student work placements.
  • Assist the instructor with testing and record‑keeping.
  • Provide individual tutoring and reinforcement of instruction of particular segments of the program.
  • Promote a positive work atmosphere and communicate in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor or designate.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Recognized two (2) year diploma in Social Services or other relevant field of studies.
  • 3 years or more relevant experience in adult education and training, and in working with clients in transition; or equivalent education and relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of post‑secondary training and education programs, and community resources.
  • Good rapport and familiarity with community and post‑secondary resources.
  • Excellent, demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Computer skills, including accurate word processing, database and spreadsheet programs.
  • Understanding of and empathy with training barriers which face participants.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a strong team member.
