Job description

EMPLOYER: Workplace Safety and Insurance Board

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (the WSIB) helps people overcome workplace injuries and illnesses and helps businesses make their workplaces safe and healthy. Our people are at the heart of what we do. Bring your enthusiasm and expertise to the WSIB, and we’ll help you achieve your personal and professional goals through meaningful work, development opportunities and a culture of compassion, integrity and teamwork.

We are the WSIB. And we’re here to help.

Summer Student Recruitment

The WSIB is committed to providing opportunities for students to gain meaningful hands‑on work experience and to offer insight into future employment opportunities and career options within the WSIB. When you join the WSIB, you start to put your academic experience into practice as you work on challenging assignments and take ownership of projects. We also offer training programs for each stage of career advancement. Our learning and development programs are focused on developing the core competencies that reflect our organizational values and define the skills, knowledge and behaviours we believe are critical to achieving personal and professional success.

One of our greatest strengths is our people, and our collective desire to make Ontario a safer, healthier and more equitable place to live and work.

We respect and value the diversity of our people. We strive to create an environment where employees can be themselves and where our differences are celebrated.

We invite all interested individuals to apply and encourage applications from racialized and Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

We are committed to making our recruitment process equitable and accessible. Should you require accommodation at any stage of our recruitment process, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.

We can read our full Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy here and our full Accessibility Policy here.

We hire summer students in the following areas:

Operations Team

The Operations team deals directly with people who’ve been injured or become ill because of work. We provide our customers with the best possible service through claim adjudication, ensuring payment, return-to-work services, and managing access to health services.

Employer Services Team

The Employer Services team focuses on our business customers. Our goal is to help people register their business, report and pay premiums and to reduce injuries and illness in their workplace. This team includes Employer Account Services, Corporate Compliance and Workplace Health and Safety Services. The team promotes and encourages employers to create healthier and safer Ontario workplaces.

Policy, Data Analytics and Reporting Team

This team includes our policy development, data analytics and reporting, communications, change management and language services, as well as our vendor and supply management, and our physical workspaces and emergency management.

Information Technology Team

The Information Technology team manages and supports the applications, systems, devices, and networks used by all of us here at the WSIB. The cluster also partners with other business areas to develop and launch digital solutions to support our business processes. Our Enterprise Portfolio Management Office operates within this team, as all major projects and initiatives require and rely on IT involvement and support.

Finance Team

The finance team takes care of the financial health and integrity of the WSIB, including managing the funds needed to support injured people as they recover and go back to work. This team also includes our internal audit and risk management functions, economic strategy and forecasting, investment, pension administration, controllership, treasury and actuarial services.

Human Resources (HR) Team

The Human Resources team provides comprehensive human resources advice and services to the organization, enabling strategic business outcomes through our people. The division’s work is directed by the Strategic Plan and the aligned People Plan, both of which guide our employees as the WSIB transforms into an agile, customer‑centric organization. HR also delivers a range of operational services to WSIB employees, from talent acquisition to job classification and compensation to disability management and mental health services.

Legal Services Team

The Legal Services team works to advance our service commitment and to maximize the value it provides to the WSIB. This teamwork supports our people to support risk‑intelligent decision‑making and to ensure that we act in ways that are legal, ethical and reputable.

Strategy and Risk

The Strategy and Risk team acts as the strategic driver for the WSIB. The team helps improve internal decision‑making and reporting and informs enterprise‑wide decisions. The Strategy and Risk team includes real estate and facilities management and is also responsible for leading management teams and our Board of Directors through the risks and opportunities.
