Job description
Second-Year Carpentry Apprentice

Sanpal Enterprises Ltd dba J and J Construction located at Unit 19, 220 Kaien Road, Prince Rupert, British Columbia, V8J 3P4, has a vacancy for a one (1) 2ndyear Carpentry Apprentice on a full-time permanent basis. The applicant will be working in Prince Rupert at various sites and extended services to Terrace.

Duties
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
  • Assist in framing, sheathing and finishing
  • Practice job site safety
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping habits that include work areas and tools
  • English is the language used at the workplace
Experience
  • 1 – 2years of rough or finishing carpentry experience as a minimum.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
  • Work safely and without guidance.
  • Own tools and transport with a valid driver license.
  • Be personable and able to communicate with clients and trades.
  • Have above average problem-solving skills and be able to overcome obstacles on complicated projects.
  • Be professional and respectful demeanour with clients, sub-trades, and crew members.
Education
  • High School Certificate (Grade 12)
  • Base rate of $24.88 per hour, plus the following: will include on each hour worked:
    • 12% ($2.99) standard holiday pay
    • Benefit plan of $2.90
    • Pension plan of $4.24
    • Admin Fund of 0.30
    • Training Fund of 0.25
    • Rehab Plan of $0.04
    • Member Assist of 0.05
  • Total package per hour will be $35.65
  • 40 hours per week, paid bi-weekly
  • Should overtime be required, will be paid after 40 hrs @ 1.5
  • Worker will join the Construction Maintenance Allied Workers union once trial period is complete.
