RecruitFirst is seeking an Associate Engineer (Team Lead) to oversee technical operations, guide a team of engineers, and ensure high-quality service across our courier and logistics network. You will develop SOPs, monitor KPI performance, manage maintenance, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance.

• Engineering degree or diploma in mechanical/automotive fields.

About the role

As Associate Engineer (Team Lead), you will be responsible for overseeing technical operations, managing a team of engineers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality service standards across our courier and logistics network. This role is pivotal in bridging technical expertise with team management, ensuring operational excellence and continuous improvement within your department.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, mentoring and performance management

• Oversee the maintenance and optimisation of vehicles, equipment and logistics infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency

• Develop and implement standard operating procedures for technical operations and team workflows

• Conduct regular inspections and quality audits to maintain safety and service delivery standards

• Manage preventative and reactive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime

• Collaborate with senior management to identify areas for process improvement and cost optimisation

• Train and develop team members to enhance technical skills and professional competencies

• Monitor team performance metrics and report on operational KPIs to management

• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations within your area of responsibility

• Liaise with external vendors and service providers to support logistics operations

What we're looking for

• A recognised engineering qualification or diploma in mechanical, automotive or related discipline

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a technical engineering or maintenance role, preferably within transport, logistics or courier services

• Proven track record of team leadership and supervision of technical staff

• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, fleet management systems and logistics operations

• Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on practical, cost-effective solutions

• Solid understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance requirements

• Proficiency in maintenance management software and digital reporting tools

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across departments

• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise multiple tasks and meet operational deadlines

• Relevant certifications in heavy vehicle maintenance, fleet management or occupational safety are advantageous
