Job summary

Political Asylum Lawyers in Houston seeks an Accounting & Finance Manager (Hands-on) to lead the firm’s financial operations, billing, trust accounting, and budgeting. This role blends hands-on accounting with strategic oversight, requiring clear communication of complex numbers to non-financial leaders.

Responsibilities include managing day-to-day financial operations, reporting, A/R/A/P, payroll, internal controls, and tax coordination, while gradually taking on planning and forecasting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services.
• Strong understanding of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, A/R, A/P, payroll, and month-end close.
• Experience with trust/IOLTA accounting and reconciliations.
• Experience with billing systems, client payment plans, collections, and accounts receivable management.
• Proficiency with accounting software, legal billing systems, Excel, and financial reporting tools.
• Practical experience using AI tools and automation to improve accounting workflows.
• Ability to prepare accurate financial reports and explain them clearly to non-financial leaders.
• Demonstrated ability to identify financial risks, implement controls, and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• High integrity, confidentiality, discretion, and professional judgment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced law firm environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations with staff and service providers.
• Ensure accurate execution of accounting, billing, A/R, A/P, payroll, trust accounting, and tax coordination.
• Maintain clean, current financial records and support legal team with client matter finances.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
• Manage billing, collections, revenue tracking, and accounts receivable aging.
• Maintain trust/IOLTA reconciliations and internal controls.
• Provide financial analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Lead the finance team and coordinate with external vendors; implement improvements in QuickBooks, Stripe, and related tools.

Education
