Political Asylum Lawyers is a Houston-based immigration law firm focused on asylum cases, seeking an Accounting & Finance Manager (Hands-on) to manage financial operations, systems, billing, A/R, cash flow forecasting, and internal controls. This role requires delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting budgeting, and coordinating with leadership on strategic planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
• Strong understanding of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, A/R, A/P, payroll, and month-end close
• Experience with billing systems and client payment plans, collections, and accounts receivable management
• Proficiency with accounting software and legal billing systems; ability to explain complex financial information clearly
• Experience using AI tools and automation to improve workflows, with API/workflow awareness
• Ability to prepare accurate financial reports and explain them to non-financial leaders
• High integrity, confidentiality, discretion, and professional judgment

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day financial operations, coordinating with staff and service providers
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting
• Maintain trust accounting and compliance with applicable legal requirements
• Lead billing, collections, A/R, and revenue recognition processes
• Strengthen internal controls and risk management across the finance function
• Supervise finance staff and external vendors; ensure timely, accurate outputs
• Support strategic planning, pricing decisions, and cash flow management
• Collaborate with owners/leadership to improve financial workflows and dashboards
• Communicate complex financial information in plain English to non-financial leaders
