Job description
Assistant / Associate Professor of English – Writing Studies

The Department of English at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for several full‑time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in composition/writing studies to begin August 2026. We are seeking candidates with a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English for Academic Purposes, TESOL or a closely related field.

The successful candidate should have a strong record of publication, an active program of scholarship in their field, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Additional preferred qualifications include a minimum of three years’ experience teaching in North American‑style higher education institutions and experience with international student populations.

Teaching responsibilities include a six‑course annual load (3/3) in first‑year academic writing and advanced research writing. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the intellectual life of the department and university through meaningful service, student mentoring, and participation in shared governance responsibilities.

New faculty at AUS benefit from robust institutional support, including opportunities for research grants, professional development support, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The department is a dynamic and diverse community with wide‑ranging teaching and research interests, including literary studies, linguistics, composition, and education.
