Visiting Assistant Professor in Composition / Writing Studies

The Department of English at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Composition / Writing Studies beginning August 2026. Candidates should hold a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English for Academic Purposes, TESOL, or a closely related field.

We seek dynamic and inspiring teacher‑scholars who can contribute in productive ways to the department’s academic writing program, which includes a multiple course progression in Academic Writing and Advanced Research Writing. Teaching responsibilities include an eight‑course annual load (4/4) in first‑year academic writing and advanced research writing. Candidates should have a strong record of excellence in teaching and supporting information literacy and evidence of quality scholarship in their field.

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or related field
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching undergraduate academic writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years’ experience teaching composition or academic writing in North American‑style higher education institutions
  • Record of strong research and publication in relevant field, commensurate with rank
  • Demonstrated commitment to writing studies pedagogies and curriculum development
  • International teaching experience
