What you will do
The Specialist Technician serves as a subject-matter expert responsible for commissioning, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing highly complex HVAC and chiller systems. The role provides advanced technical leadership, supports multi-site operations, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and delivers high-quality service aligned with customer requirements, service agreements, and defined processes
How you will do it
Technical Expertise & Service Delivery
- Act as the technical authority for assigned systems and products within the area of specialization, providing advanced diagnostics and resolution of high-complexity issues.
- Lead commissioning, startup, inspection, and troubleshooting activities for complex HVAC and chiller systems within defined timelines and quality standards.
- Diagnose and repair system malfunctions requiring in-depth product knowledge, specialized qualifications, and accurate assessment of time and material requirements.
- Perform installations and system commissioning in compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and company procedures.
- Interpret and analyze technical documentation, including electrical schematics, piping and fluid diagrams, psychrometric charts, and control logic documentation.
- Escalate unresolved technical issues proactively and seek engineering or advanced technical support as required.
Customer & Project Engagement
- Serve as the primary on-site technical contact for complex installation, commissioning, and service activities.
- Maintain professional and proactive customer engagement to understand operational challenges and provide technically sound recommendations.
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding work scope, system status, outstanding issues, and recommended upgrades or enhancements.
- Identify and promote opportunities for additional labor, materials, system upgrades, or change orders aligned with customer needs.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of work performed through clear service reports and system status updates.
Leadership, Training & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to junior technicians and service team members.
- Coordinate and lead on-site activities for multi-person and highly complex jobs, ensuring alignment to technical scope and safety requirements.
- Share emerging industry trends, new technologies, and best practices with customers and internal teams.
- Support wider geographic operations as required and rotate across sites to implement standardization and best practices.
Compliance, Safety & Continuous Development
- Ensure full compliance with Johnson Controls’ safety culture, policies, and use of mandated personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Adhere to all applicable environmental, industry, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and continuously enhance technical proficiency across Johnson Controls’ product portfolio through training and field experience
What we look for
Required
- Technical qualification in HVAC, Refrigeration, or a related trade from a recognized Industrial Training Institute or equivalent.
- Advanced system-level knowledge of chillers and complex HVAC products.
- 10–12 years of proven hands-on experience in chiller repair, advanced troubleshooting, commissioning, and servicing of HVAC systems.
- Position is not permanently site-based; requires mobility across multiple locations.
- Limited headcount role requiring high technical specialization and autonomy.
