Overview
Job Code: 221/001/143
Industry: Water Treatment
Job Brief: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Design Engineer (Instrumentation & Control) to lead the design and development of instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater treatment projects. The role involves designing control system architecture, developing I&C documentation, and supporting the programming and integration of PLC/HMI/SCADA systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process automation, instrumentation, and control design within the industrial or water sector.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of I&C systems for water treatment plants, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, client standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including Instrument Index, I/O Lists, Control Philosophy, P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Loop Diagrams, and Control Panel GA drawings.
- Define control system architecture, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and network communication protocols.
- Develop functional design specifications (FDS) for automation systems and coordinate software development with the programming team.
- Select, specify, and validate field instruments such as transmitters, flowmeters, analyzers, pressure sensors, and control valves based on process requirements.
- Review and approve vendor documents and ensure all instrumentation and control system components align with project standards.
- Coordinate FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) activities related to I&C systems and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure full system integration and functionality.
- Provide technical support during commissioning phases, ensuring seamless integration between electrical and automation systems.
- Prepare as-built documentation and technical reports for project handover.
- Ensure designs adhere to HSE, quality, and industry best practices throughout all engineering stages.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance in control system design and documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Control, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in I&C design, preferably in water treatment, oil & gas, or industrial automation projects.
- Must have hands-on experience in instrumentation and control design engineering, not only commissioning or maintenance (Mandate).
- Strong understanding of PLC/HMI/SCADA systems (Siemens, Schneider, Allen-Bradley, etc.) and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Proven expertise in preparing I&C design documents — P&IDs, Instrument Index, Loop Diagrams, FDS, and Control Narratives.
- Experience in instrument selection, control logic development, and system integration.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
- Experience in FAT/SAT documentation and execution for control systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong coordination ability with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- UAE experience preferred.
