Job Title: Operator – Piler
Purpose of the Role: The Operator-Piler is responsible for managing and operating the piling area in a steel or metal processing plant. The goal is to ensure that bars or bundles are stacked, labeled, and processed correctly, safely, and efficiently while maintaining product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating Piling Area:
- Run piling equipment according to standard procedures.
- Avoid causing damage to machines or equipment.
- Monitoring & Quality Control:
- Watch monitors and analyze graphs related to piling operations.
- Adjust bundling details to ensure orders meet quality standards.
- Communication:
- Coordinate with upstream and downstream teams to ensure smooth workflow and reduce delays.
- Safety & Equipment Handling:
- Know safe operating procedures for starting, stopping, and moving piling equipment.
- Monitor equipment for faults, defects, or malfunctions and report issues to supervisors.
- Identification & Labeling:
- Ensure all bundles are properly labeled and tagged before sending to storage.
- Machine Maintenance:
- Replace straps in strapping machines as needed.
- Keep the piling area and equipment clean, including scales and surroundings.
- Assist crane operators with scrap removal when necessary.
- Production Efficiency:
- Suggest and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Handling Materials:
- Re-bundle material from the Gag press without mixing different qualities.
- Prepare materials for re-straightening safely and efficiently.
- Additional Duties:
- Assist with cleaning during stoppages or downtime.
- Learn to operate the cold saw to support team members temporarily.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Basic understanding of mill process automation (Level 2 & SAP systems).
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of finishing area operations, especially cold saw usage.
- Good English communication skills (written and spoken).
- Attention to detail: ability to monitor equipment and ensure products are defect-free.
Education & Training
- High School diploma or Mechanical/Technical diploma.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Any professional training in relevant areas is a plus (nice to have).
