Job summary

A luxury hotel chain in Abu Dhabi is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering team and oversee maintenance operations. Candidates should have a degree in Engineering and 5–8 years of experience in hospitality or facilities management, supplemented by strong project management skills. The role involves ensuring all building systems function optimally, managing budgets, and leading a team dedicated to high standards of safety and compliance. Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Lead and manage the Engineering team, including supervisors, technicians, and contractors.
  • Oversee daily maintenance operations, preventive maintenance programs, and emergency repairs.
  • Ensure all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems are fully functional and regularly inspected.
  • Maintain the hotel’s physical condition and appearance, including rooms, public areas, back of house, and exterior.
  • Project & Asset Management: Plan and execute capital projects, renovations, and upgrades in line with hotel standards and budgets.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and ensure equipment is serviced and replaced on schedule.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors to ensure quality work and compliance.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with local regulations, fire codes, health and safety standards, and brand requirements.
  • Oversee regular testing of life-safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting, etc.).
  • Lead property risk assessments and support security and crisis response plans.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage the Engineering department budget, including CAPEX and OPEX.
  • Control energy consumption and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Monitor procurement, inventory, and vendor contracts for efficiency.
  • Team Leadership: Train, coach, and develop Engineering staff to maintain high performance and safety awareness.
  • Create duty rosters and ensure adequate coverage for 24/7 operations.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, F&B, and other departments to address maintenance needs promptly.
  • Support the General Manager and Executive Committee with technical expertise and reporting.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits, inspections, and brand assessments.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Facilities Management preferred).
  • 5–8+ years of engineering leadership experience in hospitality or facilities management.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, energy management, and preventive maintenance.
  • Proven project management and budgeting experience.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and manage high-pressure situations.
