Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a forward-thinking telecommunications company in finding a Telecommunications Systems Specialist for a fully remote contract role. Based ideally near Mossel Bay, Western Cape, this position focuses on analysis, implementation and support of PBX, VoIP, and related platforms to ensure reliable service.

We are seeking a self-motivated engineer with 5+ years of experience in telecom systems, strong IP telephony knowledge, and the ability to work independently from a home

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in telecommunications systems management and support.
• In-depth knowledge of IP telephony (VoIP), digital telephony, and associated protocols (e.g., SIP, H.323).
• Experience with PBX systems (e.g., Cisco, Avaya, Asterisk) and unified communications platforms.
• Strong understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and troubleshoot challenging technical problems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively remotely.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level support and administration for a range of telecommunications systems, including PBX, VoIP, and ACD platforms.
• Analyze system performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reliability.
• Manage telecommunications hardware and software upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all telecommunications systems and processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to voice and data communications.
• Collaborate with vendors to procure, implement, and support new telecommunications technologies.
• Conduct training sessions for internal staff on the effective use of telecommunication systems.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Assist in the planning and design of new telecommunications infrastructure projects.
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergency support as needed.
