Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer for a fully remote role serving South Africa from a home office. You will lead analysis, design, and management of water-related infrastructure, focusing on hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage, guiding projects from concept to construction while mentoring junior staff.

The ideal candidate has a Master's in Civil Engineering (Water Resources or Hydrology), Pr Eng with ECSA and at least 10 years of experience, with strong modeling skills

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or Hydrology.
• Professional registration as a Pr Eng with ECSA.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in water resources engineering.
• Proven expertise in hydrological and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, EPANET, SWMM).
• Extensive experience in stormwater management design, flood mitigation, and urban drainage.
• Strong understanding of catchment hydrology, water quality, and environmental impact assessments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing capabilities.
• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex projects effectively in a remote setting.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A reliable internet connection and a conducive home office environment are essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis of stormwater drainage, flood control, and water supply networks.
• Conduct hydrological studies, hydraulic modeling, and flood risk assessments.
• Develop water management plans, catchment management strategies, and erosion control measures.
• Prepare detailed design reports, technical specifications, and tender documents.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and client relationships for water resources projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists and civil engineers.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and water quality standards.
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
• Review and approve design calculations and construction drawings.
• Stay current with advancements in water resources engineering software and methodologies.
